Iran attacked Pakistan with airstrikes. They aimed at a group called Jaish-al-Adl. This made Pakistan uneasy. News says China and Pakistan are working together on projects where the attack happened. But the attack is also affecting these projects. Now, Pakistan is looking to China for help against the attack. Defense experts think China may not give much help despite what Pakistan hopes. There’s criticism in Pakistan, with retired military officials and locals questioning the military and government.

On Tuesday, Iran’s military attacked two big locations of Jaish-al-Adl in Pakistan linked to insurgent activities. This came a day after Iran hit Iraq and Syria. Iran used missiles and drones, causing damage. Pakistan warned Iran of severe consequences. Retired Brigadier Deepak Ahuja, a defense expert, thinks Pakistan’s threats may not lead to anything. He says Iran had told Pakistan about terrorist groups at their border before. Jaish-al-Adl was responsible for killing 11 Iranian police officers, and Iran wanted Pakistan to eliminate such camps.

Some voices in Pakistan say China should help against Iran. Captain Surendra Randhawa, another defense expert, thinks Pakistan may ask China for support, but China may not give much help. He says China hasn’t supported Pakistan in such actions before. China and Iran made a 25-year agreement two years ago. They’ve had trade deals worth around $500 million over a decade. China’s National Petroleum Corporation also signed gas contracts in different parts of Iran. Moreover, China’s Belt and Road Initiative connects with Iran. Assistant Professor Abhishek Pratap Singh from Delhi University argues that while Pakistan is crucial for China, Iran is equally important. He states that China is unlikely to involve itself in the surgical strike on Iran following the recent airstrike in Pakistan. China has invested billions of dollars in Iran, not only in natural resources but also in oil and other resources. Although China has made similar investments in Pakistan, from a geographical perspective, Iran has always been strategically important for China. Abhishek suggests that China has played a significant role in fostering friendship between Iran and Arab countries. Despite the calls within Pakistan for China to assist in retaliating against Iran, it does not seem probable. He emphasizes the need for China to mediate between Iran, China, and Pakistan to resolve the situation, but China is unlikely to actively support Pakistan in retaliatory military action.

International affairs experts believe that the impact of Iran’s strike on Pakistan will also affect financial aid from foreign sources. PK Dutt, a member of the International Economic Forum, argues that this is not the first time Pakistan has faced such a surgical strike. He notes that international organizations, including the IMF, release funds for countries that adhere to international standards. Dutt suggests that the surgical strike on Pakistan indicates that the country is providing refuge to terrorists, causing instability within its borders. In such situations, international agencies, including the IMF, hesitate to extend financial assistance. Therefore, the airstrike on Pakistan by Iran is expected to worsen its financial situation, affecting its economy and international standing.
