Reports from the state seismology agency, coupled with visuals disseminated through media channels, documented the rapid response to the earthquake.
Despite the seismic disturbance, there were no immediate reports of casualties. The seismology agency, communicating through X (formerly Twitter), reassured the public that while no damage was anticipated, caution was warranted due to potential aftershocks. The earthquake, recorded at a depth of 79 kilometers (49.09 miles) and a magnitude of 5.9, had its epicenter situated approximately 130 kilometers from the capital region.
Mayor Michael Orayani of Lubang town in Occidental Mindoro province shared his experience, stating, “We felt the strong and lengthy tremor. We rushed outdoors even while the building was shaking,” as he described the urgency of the situation.
Media visuals shared on X depicted government workers streaming out of prominent buildings such as the congress, senate, presidential palace, and justice ministry. Simultaneously, students from various universities were seen evacuating their educational institutions.
In response to the seismic activity, the transportation ministry promptly suspended train operations in the capital. However, the state airport operator reported no observable damage to runway and taxiway pavements or terminal facilities, providing a measure of reassurance amid the unsettling circumstances.
